Little Venice to Angel along the Regent's Canal.

3 Hours one way trip, 4.5 miles each way, 5 locks

The following is for information about the canal only, as we not currently offering cruises beyond Camden.

The trip from Little Venice to Angel along the Regent’s Canal is a great three hour one way cruise.

For the part we will follow the Little Venice to Kings Cross route, passing through Maida Vale, Lisson Grove, Regents Park, London Zoo, Primrose Hill, Camden, Kentish Town, Kings Cross.

After Granary Square and York Way at Kings Cross we will continue past Caledonian Road towards Islington Tunnel which is the longest in the south of England at 960 yards and we will see many more boats using the public moorings here.

The tunnel is much darker inside than the earlier Maida Hill but we can see the end in the distance. Spare a thought here for the old boatmen who would be virtually suffocated during their trip through, boats being pulled through in groups of six or so by a steam powered tug boat hauling on a chain in the canal bed. Imagine the smoke and steam and soot and noise as the old boats smashed against the sides. Time was money and this incredible machine sped through in only half an hour. Nowadays its much more simple to pass through and will take us only 15 minutes. When we will emerge into the daylight we are alongside Noel Road in Angel – in fact if you take the steps up from the canal towpath here up to the main road above you’re only 2 minutes walk to Upper Street and Islington, and only 3 minutes walk to Angel tube.

We will continue past the very popular Islington visitor moorings and pass through one more lock, City Road Lock where there is sometimes a cafe in the old pump-house building. If the cafe is closed there’s always a pub nearby – The Narrowboat on St Peters Street with access from the towpath or road above. We will end the one way trip between the lock and the pub. Real ale drinkers – please ask the skipper for directions to the nearby Wenlock Arms where you’ll find a splendid selection of traditional beers plus some interesting food too.

The one way trip is specially priced and you’re on the boat for three hours, starting at Little Venice and ending at Angel or vice versa, starting at Angel and ending in Little Venice. Once again this trip is ideal for those interested in getting as much experience of the canals as possible while still able to enjoy a party cruise on the boat. If you want to stop at the London Canal Museum along the way at Kings Cross, then this can be arranged for an additional price plus the entry fee to the museum which is payable on arrival.

This trip is not normally available at weekends due to congestion in the canal.
